Student council elections

Student council is something people take lightly. I mean they are the leaders who can be your voice to the school board.
Leaders are the ones who sets an example to the others. Leaders are not necessarily supposed to be the monitor, or the president of the student council, or the captain of a team.
Leaders come from all types of backgrounds, you just need to identify your leadership qualities. Hi, I'm Ashley Svishnu and today I'm going to be talking about the student council elections.

Now I take student council elections very seriously. I personally feel very responsible and important whether I'm the one voting or the one nominated. Some of you might think that "What's the big deal about the student council elections? I mean, it's not like we're voting for the primeminister or president of our nation." I know, but it doesn't mean that it should be taken lightly. I've seen many people complain on how the council members are not doing anything or are annoying, and that is because you maybe haven't voted for the right person.

I strongly believe in impartial voting. When I vote for someone whether it's my best friend or some random student, I don't care who they are to me, as long as they are fit for the post, I will vote for them. If you vote the student just because they're your friend or if they're popular, then it could be useless if they're not the right one for the post. So don't have that mentality, I mean it's good to support them and all, but you could suffer being under the wrong leadership and end up complaining.

When I hear the nominees speeches,  I judge them on three conditions. Based on these conditions, I decide whether or not to vote for them. The conditions are:-

  • If they are confident during their speech- It is important that a leader should be confident, but not over confident. It is important that if you want to be a leader, you need to believe in yourself first, before anyone can trust their vote on you. I mean you could convince someone that a carrot is a fruit, if you are confident that it is( not that a carrot is a fruit, but it was an example πŸ˜…).
  • If they have good ideas- If you want to be a leader, you need a vision or goal to achieve. You need to grab people's attention with your ideas. Not outrageous ideas, but something that will benifit the students and the school.
Their previous performances and qualities- As we all have heard actions speak louder than words, your previous works and attitude should define if you are worthy. It's kinda funny that we've heard the quote-"Action speak louder than words." More times than actually seeing it happen. We can all be confident and have good ideas and get elected, but not fulfill any of them. If we know your previous works and contributions, and if you have the right attitude (most important) then you are probably the right candidate for the post.

Those were my conditions. I hope it will help the people who are planning to run for the elections. I believe if you vote based on these conditions, then you will have a good council leading you. And if you want to be a leader in the future then I recommend you trying to run for the student council elections. And don't participate in it just because it will look good on your resume, participate if you really want to make a difference, and do your best with the right attitude and intention. May the best candidate win.πŸ˜‰
                                     For now.....
                                           Goodbye.
